MWC -Lake Monitoring Program

2008 Lake System Health Monitoring Program

The District Municipality of Muskoka administers a Lake System Health Monitoring Program that is comprised of recreational water quality monitoring, shoreline surveys, and technical assistance for lake associations interested in undertaking a volunteer based monitoring program.

Muskoka Watershed Council - Policy & Research Committee Meeting

Good afternoon,

Muskoka Watershed Council invites you to attend the Policy & Research Committee meeting scheduled for this Friday, April 17th at 10:00 am in the Birch Room at the District of Muskoka administration building.

MWC members are welcome to attend committee meetings if there is a topic of interest on the agenda. Please let contact Rebecca Willison if you plan to attend the meeting and if you require a hard copy of the agenda package.

MHF AND MHT ACTIVITY REPORT

1. Fundraising - The Foundation has undertaken the following fundraising events this summer

The Summer Tour was held on July 18, 2008 and toured three cottages on Lake Muskoka.

The Wenonah Cruise was held on August 7, 2008 and toured the north end of Lake Muskoka.

The golf tournament will be held on September 26, 2008 at the Bigwin Island Golf Course in Lake

of Bays.

2. Natural Heritage - The Natural Heritage Committee has visited nominees for the Natural Heritage

Update on MWC Committee Activities

To: Muskoka Watershed Council From: Committee Chairs Date: September 12, 2008 Re: Update on Committee Activities Communications Initiatives The Best Practices Brochure on Wetlands was produced and almost 4,000 brochures have been distributed to date. The Waterfront Investment brochure created in 2005 was reprinted as the original stock of 20,000 had run out. Public Service announcements ran throughout the summer on various Best Practices topics on the five local Moose FM radio stations as well as The New CHAY. MWC members wrote a series of articles on

Year‐to‐Date Activity Report

A Year‐to‐Date Activity Report for Muskoka Watershed Council, including a financial report on designated funds, was distributed with the agenda. The Activity Report will be shared with the District Municipality of Muskoka, Muskoka Heritage Foundation, and watershed municipalities. It is anticipated that Activity and Financial Reports will be developed and distributed on a semi‐annual basis. Interim Report Card The Strategic Directions Committee has developed a draft interim report card on municipal planning.
