Mayor Doughty has declared a snow emergency for the Town of Huntsville this morning (Friday December 11). Residents are being told to stay home after a massive snowstorm is expected to dump as much as 80 centimetres of snow in some regions along the Bruce Peninsula and Georgian Bay.
By 7:30 a.m., more than 50 centimetres of snow had already fallen in Huntsville, according to the mayor.
"It's continuing to come down in buckets," he said.
The OPP issued a travel advisory for cottage country, warning people to stay away from the area.
"Heavy accumulations of snow have made roads unpassable," the advisory says. "Snow plows are working diligently to clear the roads but at this time they are still not driveable."
Environment Canada has issued a Snow Squall Warning for the entire area.
