Lake of Bays Budget Review- March 23, 2009

I thought that some of you might be interested in what the Lake of Bays Township is doing in regards to our Tax Levy for next few years. Frankly, I find it very scary!
I have shown below the results from the third Draft of the Budget for 2009.
First of all, note that the proposed Levy increase on March 3rd was 10.24% [i.e. approximately $15.48 per $100,000.00 assessment --- recognize that this figure is misleading since it only represents the funds our Township will get ( 20%), the District and Education get another 80%; therefore, by my calculations the assessment is really about $75.00 per $100,000.00 assessment or about $400.00 in 2009 for a home/cottage assessed at $500,000.00].
Secondly, note that the Tax Levy proposed for 2010 and 2011 show Levy increases of greater than 30% --- DO YOUR OWN CALCULATIONS AND IT WILL REALLY SCARE YOU!

A special meeting of the Finance and Corporate Services committee, regarding the Levy, will be held tomorrow (Tuesday March 24th) at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Township of the Lake of Bays Municipal Office, Dwight, Ontario ---everyone is invited. To my knowledge, the final meeting regarding the budget is set for 9:00/9:30 a.m. on April 4th at the same location. I hope some of you can make these meetings. Burr
